DON’T LEAVE THYSELF BEHIND ANY LONGER: (PART 2) THE FEARFUL HEART

June 28, 2015 Riley

We now understand why we are not our true selves, its due to the fact at some point in time we left them behind.  That happens in a religious setting, work setting, family setting, and always in personal spheres everywhere.  Recognizing it is pretty easy especially with the help of loved ones.  It’s needed to say, “I’m not me,” or “I don’t feel right.”  Once that is done the hard part is changing.  It may have been tried to come back to the true self before and failed 100 times or never attempted because there are feelings of inadequacy.  “I’ll never be able to live up to that person.”  That is called fear.

Why do we fear?  What is fear?  If we are going to have faith, hope, and love there must be fear, despair, and hate.  It is said in ancient scripture “For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.” (2 Nephi 2:11)  In modern scripture it says, “And it must needs be that the devil should tempt the children of men, or they could not be agents unto themselves; for if they never should have bitter they could not know the sweet.”  (Doctrine and Covenants 29:39)

We have fear because it forces us to exercise faith and turn to God rather than the world.  The downside is that fear is easier to exercise and follow than faith in Jesus Christ.  The world is easy and everything is instant gratification.  The “worldly” life is inviting and appealing to all. Once you’re in it, it’s hard to leave.  It’s scary to leave comfort and change is hard.  I left a worldly life and completely changed my ways.  It was hard then and it is hard now.  But the one thing I have going for me is having faith over fear. I don’t always choose faith over fear but I make an effort.  That’s all that is needed in my book.  Turning your life around from the bad to the good is hard, the same does not apply  for the reverse.

Chosing to come back to our Spiritual selves is not a walk in the park. Looking down that road seems bleak. But the second you start your change you’ll get the ability to choose faith over fear. The worst part is knowing we want to, need to, and should be better and we have total control over it.  My brother said fear is a choice, I would add that it takes no effort.

To those who want, need, and desperate to be our true selves, please make the choice to do so. It will take time. Start with little steps and then grow by grace till you are in the shows that actually fit you walking down a divinely lit up road back to joy.  Cast away your fearful heart and replace it with a faithful one. It’s hard but eternally worth it! GO BACK TO THY TRUE SELF!!

“For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.  Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost.” -2 Nephi 28:30-31
